9th International Workshop on Bifurcation and Degradation in Geomaterials May 23-26, 2011 Porquerolles, France

After the last highly successful meeting of IWBDG in Lake Louise (Canada) in May 2008, the next session will take place on Porquerolles Island in the south of France in May 2011.

The Organizing Committee hopes to make this workshop a memorable event to bring together international scientists on a number of topics, to promote informal discussions, and to give rise to future collaborations.

In accordance with our tradition, this meeting aims to promote insight in bifurcation and degradation in geomaterials, incorporating instability modelling, localized and diffuse failure description, multiscale and micromechanical approaches, etc…

One of our major goals is also to focus on applied studies in the geo-environmental field.

This meeting encourages, in particular, the participation of Young Researchers (YRs) at a pre- or post-doctoral level. Therefore, we will reserve for this category of participants extremely moderate registration fees.

The island of Porquerolles – known as one of the "golden isles" of France- was given in 1988 the status of national park. Its sandy beaches and superb views from the cliffs falling to the sparkling Mediterranean Sea attract many visitors who enjoy natural activities, such as hiking, biking, sailing or swimming. The Port Cros natural park is particularly suitable for family with children.

The Organizing Committee is looking forward to your attendance at the 9th International Workshop on Bifurcation and Degradation in Geomechanics (IWBDG2011) in Porquerolles Island, France, 2011.
